ਜਲ

ਤੂੰ ਜਲਨਿਧਿ ਹਉ ਜਲ ਕਾ ਮੀਨੁ ॥ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਉ ਜਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਖੀਨੁ ॥

You are the Ocean, and I am just a fish in that Water. In that Water, I remain alive; without that Water, I would die.

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੈਸੀ ਜਲ ਕਮਲੇਹਿ ॥

O mind, love Vaheguru, as the lotus loves the water.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਰਿੰਗ ਕਉ ਹੋਇ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ਵਾਸਾ ॥

Please grant the Water of Your Mercy to Nanak, the thirsty song-bird, so that I may remain immersed Your Name.

ਜਲਿ

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਕੂੜਾ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਵਈ ॥

If someone speaks the truth, the dishonest person is burnt (suffers in pain).

ਤਤੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

The manmukh does not understand the essence of reality (Vaheguru), and gets burnt (suffers due to sins).

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦਾਧੀ ਜਲਿ ਮੁਈ ਜਲਿ ਜਲਿ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥

The world is burning and dying due to desires; continuously burning, it cries out

ਜਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਾਜੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਭੀ ਮੈਲਾ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸਿ ਨਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

Scrubbing with water, the body can be cleaned, O Siblings, but the body becomes dirty again. Bathing in the supreme essence of spiritual wisdom (Naam Amrit), O Siblings, the mind as well as the body become pure. ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਭਰਪੂਰੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ The Wonderous Vaheguru is present in the water (oceans) and the land; He is attained by following the Path of The Guru.
