ਅਰਥ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਹੜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭੁਗਤਦਾ ਹੈ

ਮਿਠਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਖਾਇਆ ਕਉੜਾ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਸਾਦੁ ॥

People eat what they believe to be sweet (pleasures), but it turns out to be bitter (painful) in taste.

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥

If one’s mind gets attached with Vaheguru, then death does not devour (scare) him.

ਮੰਨੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਨਾ ਖਾਇ ॥

By truly believing (in Vaheguru), one does not receive blows (of suffering) on his face.
